ARTISTIC GLASS WINDOWS MUSEUM
The building that houses the museum itinerary is in itself the most interesting element. It is in fact the main glass factory of Piegaro, perhaps present in this area of the town since the most ancient times. Archive documentation attests to the presence of a glass factory in this place at least since the 17th century, but nothing prevents us from assuming that a glass workshop existed here even before then. The factory operated until 1968, when production was moved to the new plant outside the town walls.
After a period of abandonment, the building, a monument strongly associated with Piegaro and its territory, was purchased by the Municipality, and with careful restoration, was recovered, so as to make this rare and interesting testimony of industrial archaeology accessible. A large model, the result of long and careful artisan work, is exhibited in the museum itinerary, and allows us to understand the general structure of the complex, which is spread over three floors, and the uses of the various rooms during the factory's activity phase.
