A JEWEL SET IN THE HEART OF ITALY

Spoleto has long been one of the most popular Umbrian destinations for Italians and is located just 39 km from Gallano. Built on the top of the Sant'Elia hill, at the foot of Monteluco, the historic center of Spoleto is therefore a continuous up and down but helped by the escalators that go up through the historic center with a whole day you will have the opportunity to visit its monuments and fully appreciate the history and art that distinguish it. The historic center, with its multi-millennial history, cannot fail to impress and leave an excellent memory in those who visit it. Truly a very important stop and an absolute must for those who want to take a trip to Umbria. As with other ancient Umbrian cities, the advice when visiting Spoleto is to immerse yourself in the maze of streets and views, every corner of this city reserves particular emotions.

WHAT TO SEE

Undoubtedly not to be missed is the Spoleto Cathedral, in Romanesque style, but also the church of Sant'Eufemia and the church of San Pietro with its splendid Romanesque façade. From the space in front of San Pietro you can enjoy a wide view that takes in all of Spoleto up to the mighty Ponte delle Torri, 80 metres high and built at the end of the 14th century as an aqueduct to ensure water supplies to the city. Worth a visit are the beautiful and picturesque Piazza del Mercato, Palazzo Collicola, which houses the Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts – Carandente Museum, the Bishop's Palace (Diocesan Museum), Palazzo Racani-Arroni, the State Archaeological Museum in the former monastery of Sant'Agata, the Diocesan Museum and the Basilica of Sant'Eufemia. Just outside the historic centre are the churches of San Ponziano and San Salvatore, the latter a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it was the home of the Lombards.
